4. Process (Roles 1-4)


Process

Role 1:Athletic Director



  • Your role will be to make the travel arrangements for your team. You will need to make airline and hotel reservation.

  • First you will need to determine the city in which your team will be playing. To do this first you need to find if your team is in the West, East, Midwest, or South Regional.  To see where your team’s 1st and 2nd round games will be played, click here:  NCAA Bracket
  • Next you will need to find the cost of airline tickets for your team to the 1st and 2nd round game site.  You will need tickets from your school’s city to the city where you’ll play your first two games and tickets back as well.  Airline/Hotel Costs        School Info
  • When you find your airline costs, click on these tickets to record your findings. You will need to purchase 36 tickets for the players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc.  Record the cost on the handout provided.


  • Next, you’ll need 18 4-star hotel rooms at the same hotel (2 people per room) for a total of 4 nights, in case you win the first game.  Record your hotel costs on the handout provided.







Role 2: Statistician


Your role as the statistician will be to compare the statistics for your basketball team with the statistics of your first tournament opponent.Does your team have what it takes to win its first game on the road to the Final Four?You will need to find the following statistics for your team and your opponent:  Team Stats—    

NCAA Bracket

1. Average points scored per game

2. Average assists per game

3. Average field goal percentage

4. Average free throw percentage

5. Average three point goal percentage

6. Average rebounds per game

7. Average blocks per game

8. Average steals per game


Keep the handout containing the stats for your team and your opponent.  This sheet will be needed to complete your group project! 





Role 3:Public Relations Director

Your role as the Public Relations Director will be to create a page for the tournament program about your school. You will be using a PowerPoint to construct your page.  You will need to include the following information on your page:   

School Info

  1. The name of your school
  2. A map of the United States with the location of your school indicated.   Google Maps
  3. A picture of your campus.
  4. A picture of your mascot.
  5. A short paragraph about your the history of your school’s performance in the NCAA Tournament.
To make your program page, you will be using PowerPoint. You will receive a direction handout to use. You will need to print your completed PowerPoint to send to the NCAA tournament officials. You will need to include this on the poster for your final project.  You also need to print a Google Map showing you school’s location.








ROLE 4: ASSISTANT COACH

  • The head coach has asked you to predict the schools that you might be playing. You are going to find the bracket for the tournament and predict the results of each game. Use the provided NCAA bracket to research your potential opponents.

  • Click the link,

     to fill out a clickable form.  then when you have finished & picked the winner, go to File>Print>Room 117 Printer .

  • You need to predict the winner of each game on the bracket.  At the end of the tournament you will rate your skills at predicting. For each 1st round game you predicted correctly, your team will receive 1 point (see the bracket sheet for all point values for each correct prediction in later rounds) . Predicting the champion of the tournament will be worth 32 points. You will need to calculate your final score for your team.

  • The completed bracket will need to be attached to your group's poster.

  • You will need to turn in your bracket before the tournament actually begins. You will score your own sheet after the championship game and I will double-check them for accuracy.
